Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County FairFor more than 158 years, residents and visitors alike have enjoyed the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair. Held during the last part of July or beginning of August, the St. Lawrence County Fair has something for everyone. The fair kicks off with 4-H competitions and showing from livestock to rabbits from quilting to table setting. There is a talent show, harness racing, and the ever poplar Band Day where high school marching bands get to strut their stuff, which is followed that evening by the Fireman’s Parade, where departments from across the County file in to town. Other regular attractions include entertainment on the grandstand and the demolition derby on the final Sunday. The 2009 Fair featured helicopter rides, a dancing bears show, poultry show with chicks being hatched right before spectators’ eyes. The Coleman Brothers midway was quite popular, along with the numerous fair games and fair food… make sure you get your sausage and onions, snow cone, fresh squeezed lemonade, and fried dough and funnel cake.
