Join the Northern New York Red Cross for Ladies Night at Julian's Restaurant, 38 Market St., in Potsdam to benefit Disaster Services. Cocktails begin at 5pm, programs begin at 5:30pm , dinner at 6pm. Registration has begun for the fall and winter sessions of Toddler Storytime, a program at the Canton Free Library for children 18-35 months of age accompanied by a caregiver. There are 3 sessions to choose from, each running for four consecutive weeks. The start dates for these sessions are: September 13, October 18, and November 15. Programs involve books, songs, finger plays, felt board stories and art activities, and take place on Monday mornings from 10:30-11:00 am. The program is free, but space is limited. 9/16/2010 Potsdam Sandstone Festival

Festival runs from Thursday, September 16 - Sunday, September 19. On Thursday evening Sue Omohundro and John Bridges will present a SOAR program on sandstone history and architecture. They will continue the class on Friday morning with a walking tour of historic sandstone buildings in downtown Potsdam.  There will be a sandstone cutting demonstration.

There will be a guided tour down the Red Sandstone Trail in Hannawa Falls on Saturday morning at 10am. They will also be offering tours of Trinity Church on Fall Island and their stainglass windows. The Presbyterian Church in Potsdam is celebrating their Bicentennial and will offer a guided tour and history of the sandstone church.

The St. Lawrence Health Initiative will be holding its fourth annual GEAR event from 7am-5pm. GEAR is a fund raising adventure sprint race comprised of canoeing, on and off road biking, trail running/walking and mystery challenges to be held somewhere in the wilds of St. Lawrence County. Part of the adventure is the secrecy of the race location, which is made known two day before the event.
