Theater

Live productions are offered throughout the year by various organizations and groups--from live Broadway caliber productions, to local thespians, as well as drama departments at SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University. And don’t underestimate some of the great talent that exists at the local high schools, many of which put on great productions in the late spring. Ogdensburg Command Performance

OCP is dedicated to brining professional traveling theater productions to the Northern New York and St. Lawrence County and has been doing so for more than 40 years. Their season runs fall through spring and have such offerings as Drum!; Man of la Macha; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Total Soul and children’s theater performances of  The Pied Piper, and The Mammoth Follies.

The theater is at the Ogdensburg Free Academy High School. The facility is comfortable and seats more than 200. Click here for more information and to view the current schedule.

Community Performance Series

CPS is housed at the State University of New York at Potsdam. The Community Performance Series is a college-community partnership presenting world-class performing artists and arts education opportunities in the North Country. A rich mixture of programs links community, classroom and concert hall audiences of all ages while preserving access to the performing arts for future generations.

Sara M. Snell Hall Theater seats 450 and Helen M. Hosmer Hall seats 1186. Both facilities are used for various performances from Opera to theater.  Some recent productions included “Spanish Harlem Orchestra;” “Kathy Mattea;” and “Dougie MacLean.”

 CPS also has a “Meet the Arts” designed to introduce young people and families to the arts through entertainment and educational opportunities, such as “Tales & Scales: Jabberwocky;” “The Polar Express;” and “Pippi Longstocking.”

Edwards Opera House

The Edwards Opera House is a renovated turn of the century Victorian-styled theater off the beaten path in Edwards, NY. The Edwards Opera House seats about 275 people and the Edwards Arts Council arranges for various entertainment throughout their season from May to October. Coming this season are: Cheryl Wheeler, The Mop & Bucket Company…Improve Comedy Group, and Jay Unger and Molly Mason.

The Edwards Opera House is located in the old Edwards Town Hall. The historic structure is not handicap accessible. For more information and for schedule, click here.

SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University

The State University at Potsdam and St. Lawrence University, Canton, both offer students the opportunities to major in dance, drama, and/or performance and communication arts. Each year students offer various productions as part of their education. In addition professional performances and staff directed entertainment is offered. Schedules vary.
