St. Lawrence County Museums

Massena

The Massena Aluminum Historical Association is housed in the rear wing of the Massena Museum, 200 East Orvis Street. The association's exhibits include a wide variety of aluminum products: wire, rod, bar, cable, Kensington, Wearever, extruded shapes, raw material samples, automotive engines, and many household items. Archive include Alcoa Massena Memos and 25 Year Club records, Reynolds Metals Company Aluminators, and photographs and books relating to the aluminum industry. Hours M-F 10 a.m. -4 p.m. Visit the Museum online.

Potsdam

The Potsdam Village Museum includes permanent exhibits of the Knowles Family, the History of Potsdam and examples from the Burnap College of English pottery and porcelain and continental ceramics. The museum is located in the Civic Center buildings on Park Street. Hours: Tues.-Thrs., 2-5 p.m.; Fri., 10 a.m. to 12 noon, 2-5 p.m.; Sat., 2-5 p.m. (closed on Saturdays Memorial Day through Labor Day) Closed: Sundays, Mondays and legal holidays.

Akwesasne Cultural Center

The Akwesasne Cultural Center and Library is located on the St. Regis Mohawk Native American Territory, Hogansburg, (Franklin County) NY. The Cultural Center is comprised of the library and the Akwesasne Museum. The museum features a large collection of sweetgrass baskets, photos of the people and residents of the Territory in the early 1900s, as well as beautiful examples of beadwork. The museum is located on State Route 37, about 8 miles outside of Massena.
