Soap Making Tours
There are a number of homemade soap businesses in St. Lawrence County with varying recipes and scents to entice anyone.
One business that offers "factory tours," is SunFeather Natural Soap Company, located on the outskirts of Parishville. Sandy Maine started the company when she was 22 with $15 and her grandmother's recipe. She has grown the business to selling her natural herbal soaps, shampoos, bug repellent and animal products all over the world. With about 20 employees, SunFeather manufactures 4,000 pounds of soap weekly and has been featured on Oprah and QVC.
Sandy also has an excellent resource collection for anyone looking to get in the soap-making business, offering books, supplies and equipment. Take a tour of Sun Feathers Natural Soap Company located just north of the small village of Parishville and 7 miles from Potsdam.
