Hammond 4-H and FFA Fair
Each September youngsters from St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties bring livestock, crafts, and domestic and horticultural projects to the Hammond 4-H and FFA Fair to be evaluated by judges and enjoyed by the public.
Visitors are invited to stop by the second Friday and Saturday after Labor Day at the Hammond Fairgrounds just off Lake Street and enjoy music, maple cotton candy, the Dairy Princess' exhibit, and the gereral unhurried atmosphere of a day in the country.
Over 60 years ago Merrill Treat, an FFA advisor from Brier Hill, and Allen McGregor, a 4-H leader from Hammond, teamed up with community volunteers to organize the local fair. Volunteers continue the tradition today and area businesses provide support with goods and services vital to presenting the event.
There is no entry fee for young people to exhibit their projects. A small donation is collected from adults over 18 who attend the fair. Carnival or Midways are not allowed here, and many families attend to experience the ambiance of an old-fashioned country fair.
