Harper Falls

Harper Falls is on the North Branch of the Grasse River, just a few miles from Lampson Falls. The hike into this area is almost as beautiful as the falls itself. Starting from Donnerville Road and walking up the river toward Harper Falls offers a relaxing trek, with very little increase in elevation. The majority of the way you will be following gentle rapids. Look for the two benches along the waters edge for a restful seat. Visiting the falls any time of the year is great, but access in the winter is hard over the dirt road of Donnerville. In the spring watch for wildflowers as some of the first ones in the North Country will be seen here.

Once at the falls do not only observe them from a distance, take a walk to the top for that "up close feeling". While walking up you may notice the path has stone walls along the edge. These are the remnants of an old sawmill. There is a similar feature at another waterfall in the North Country, have you been there yet? This mill was made during the time the town of Donnerville was active and running. On the road in you may have noticed the Donnerville cemetery which dates to the mid-1800s. Now all that remains are the sawmill foundations and the cemetery.
